At Generic Network Systems, we have addressed this issue by building a very strong technical team and the infrastructure to manage thousands of pieces of IT equipment without requiring an on-site presence. We have invested heavily in automated monitoring and management tools as well as a sophisticated internal client inventory database.
Of course, we do go on-site when required, but we have found that we can usually provide faster service remotely. We start by ensuring that all the servers we maintain are properly set-up according to the industry standard best practices. We establish a VPN connection from our primary and disaster recovery site to every server under management. We then install a set of custom tools on every server, and integrate our client's machines into our proactive monitoring system.
Using both the system network connection, and the integrated lights-out management port on our client's servers we can diagnose and correct any problem remotely quickly and efficiently.
Our drive for efficiencies leads not only to better service (most calls or alerts are handled within 5 minutes or less) but also much lower cost to our customers. We are typically able to offer a fixed price contract for most of our services. This includes all system administration, monitoring and application support - in short, total responsibility for the equipment and service .
