Combating Against the Malware Threat Perfctl

New York, October 4th, 2024

Linux and MacOS have largely remained out of the news when it comes to Malware attacks, but that is changing with threats such as Perfctl, which infiltrates and then works secretly in the background on these systems. While it's been a known threat for several years now, Perfctl is now making its presence felt again. With a greater amount of infrastructure now running on Linux systems, system administrators are now focusing on more significant measures of hardening, patching and monitoring systems to protect against malware. At GNS we have multiple tools at our disposal to combat such threats.

  • TripWire daily runs, reporting to GNS central database to detect changes in binaries
  • Automated security and full patching with extensive reporting so it can be done frequently and with precision
  • Vulnerability monitoring with Nessus and other threat tools against daily reference to CVE sources
  • Automated removal of unnecessary services and process monitoring
  • Audit logging of programs running and actions
